Level Me Up!

What is Level Me Up?

Level Me Up is an app that makes growing your skills in real life as much fun as it is in a role playing game. You can make your own character sheet, list your skills, and level up over time!

The 10,000 Hours Rule

Level Me Up is based on what is known as the 10,000 hours rule. Researchers have found that if you want to master a skill, it takes about 10,000 hours of practice. For example, even Mozart, the Beatles, Tiger Woods, and Bill Gates have all spent over 10,000 hours honing their skills -- and didn't hit megastar status until they hit that 10,000 hour mark. It's the old saying "practice makes perfect" -- a LOT of practice.

Stay Motivated

If you have a skill you would like to master, you may wonder how close you are to reaching 10,000 hours. Level Me Up makes this easy! You can make a "character sheet" for yourself and list your skills, and put in the hours you "train" over time. As you develop your skills, you will watch your experience bar grow and gain levels and titles! This simple feedback is great motivation and keeps you eager to put in your hours and get closer and closer to mastery.

Have you ever been learning a skill but felt discouraged because you know of other people who seem to be better at it? Level Me Up can help you with that too! You can input the hours you've spent on the skill so far, and realize that you shouldn't expect expert quality work from yourself when you're still a beginner, and all you have to do is keep at it!

Remember Thomas Edison's advice, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration", and start leveling up today!

About LevelMeUp

Level Me Up was inspired by an article on the 10,000 hour rule on careerrealism.com. Afterwards I read a bunch of other articles about it and eventually the book the idea was derived from: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.

The 10,000 hour rule inspired me to think about the time I'd spent working on my own skills, and wonder how close I was to reaching 10,000 hours in those skills, and how much longer it would take me to reach that goal. I found two problems while doing this: So, I decided to make an app with the goal of making growing your skills in real life as much fun as growing your skills on a character in a video game - and Level Me Up was born!
