Some Days The Shark Bites You
I attempted two molds recently, each with two parts. Unfortunately, I used wooden models for the first time, and they absolutely refused to release from their plaster cocoons when the molds were done. I had no undercuts, I used plenty of mold soap… theoretically it should have been perfect.
Sigh. I whined, I coaxed, and I threatened, but the wood models refused to budge. I finally had to break the plaster to get the wood out, which of course ruins the molds. Next time, if I ever use wooden models again, I will make sure there is a liberal draft angle on the edges.
Live and learn.
But on the bright side, I did make something small and pour a mold for that, and it was my one bright spot in a very frustrating day. It is heart-shaped, a fact that will not surprise my sister in the slightest. Check back in a few weeks to see what the other side looks like!

This reminds me of a heart-shaped sculpture my sweet husband made for me back in our courting days. I was 16, he was 18. He was helping his dad finish-off their basement and they’d just had a mason construct a brick wall surrounding the fireplace. Bobby (my husband) used some leftover brown mortar and crafted a heart by hand. He then picked up dozens of small pebbles and outlined the heart. Finally, he spelled out “Bobby loves Jenalee” (my full first name) with pebbles. I still have this sculpture. It holds a place of honor in my “Pump Garden” which I can view from our kitchen & office windows. It will always be a very special piece of art!
