New Mini Designs

When I pour plaster, I often have leftovers to dispose of. Sometimes I pour plaster slabs, and sometimes I make mini ornament-size pieces to cast in the extra plaster.

Every time I cast a sculpture, I cast a few of my ornaments too. They are awesome as glaze testers, since they are small and have lines and texture, and they can turn into ornaments, magnets, or even pendants.

You may see them at the Curious Creatures show if I can find some great finishes in time!

There are few things I love more than a shark but an octopus may be one of them…

  2. I just now saw the comment you left on my blog regarding my five part plaster molds. You had asked what my model was made of. I made it out of plaster and really refined it so it would have smooth sides and no undercuts. After the plaster was dry I put a coat of shellac on it. Then the shellac has to dry thoroughly. Next it gets the mold soap treatment. Actually, they were supposed to be drop out molds but they were too complicated and wouldn’t release. I had a workshop last summer with Heather Mae Erickson and she taught her mold making techniques. I love your ornaments for your extra plaster!
